For many, building a custom home is a dream come true. From deciding on the floor plan to choosing the finishings and decor, getting to customize your living space to your specific needs can be simultaneously exciting and challenging. For our client, Angela, selecting the finishings for her custom kitchen was initially a thrill. She had her eye on a particularly luxurious quartzite countertop stone and took her time debating if it would be worth the hefty investment. When she finally made up her mind and had it installed, the last thing Angela would have expected was to have markings and water damage appear instantly on the newly installed stone. Heartbroken and frustrated, Angela reached out to RCS to help salvage her custom countertops and to restore the stone to the beautiful condition it was in when she first fell in love. We followed up with Angela to discuss her experience with RCS and to hear her thoughts on the treatment after a considerable time frame.
Q: Which service did you have done and why did you choose to have it done?
A: We had the Ceramic Protective Film applied and we had it done because we had water marks showing up on our kitchen countertops after around a month. It was a brand new house and after moving in we had ring marks from putting a cup down and splash marks around the sink as well. We had it done on the Kitchen counters, it was applied on a natural quartzite stone called Dolce Vita, and we chose the gloss finish.
Q: How long ago did you have this done and how has it lasted?
A: It [was applied] almost two years ago now and yes, it's as good as when they installed it. It has lasted really well.

Q: Tell me about your experience with the RCS installation.
A: They were professional, courteous, punctual and very tidy. I don’t recall any odour or residue or anything. They do protect your floors and it took about a day for installation.
Q: What were some of your concerns regarding your countertops before having the treatment done?
A: I had tried resealing [the countertops], but that didn't really do anything at all. I was more confident when I saw the film go down, you could actually see the watermarks disappearing. It was unbelievable. Then I was more confident [the coating] was going to work.

Q: What were some of your concerns about having the treatment done itself?
A: My only concern was that it would damage the stone or change it’s colour. Because obviously I had picked it for it’s colour, it's a beautiful stone. But the stone is exactly how it was, you can’t even tell it has a film on it.
Q: What difference has the treatment made to your everyday life?
A: This countertop was a big splurge for us, took me a while to make up my mind and say I definitely wanted it. Now I don’t see any more damage or have to cover the countertops with blankets just to make a cup of coffee or something [as I had to do] prior to this. So now, I don’t have to worry. I love it, I think it's a great product.
